Senator Paul bolted.  "Feet don't fail me now!"
Rand Paul Denies Fleeing Confrontation With Immigrant Activists - Business Insider: "Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) insists his sudden departure from undocumented immigrant rights activists was simply due to a prior commitment.
A widely-circulated video emerged on Tuesday showing Paul bolting from a table with Congressman Steve King (R-Iowa) after self-proclaimed "DREAMers" confronted King. Paul appeared to only have one or two bites from a hamburger in front of him before leaving."

Mo Brooks Says DREAMers Shouldn't Be Allowed In Military Because They're Not Loyal And Will Have Access To Nukes

Mo Brooks Says DREAMers Shouldn't Be Allowed In Military Because They're Not Loyal And Will Have Access To Nukes: "ENLIST Act, a proposal by Republican Rep. Jeff Denham of California that would allow undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children to gain permanent residence, and eventually citizenship, in the United States for serving in our military.
Brooks said the loyalty of DREAMers serving in the U.S. military would have to be questioned.
“These individuals have to be absolutely 100% loyal and trustworthy, as best as we can make them, ‘cause they’re gonna have access to all sorts of military weaponry — even to the point of having access to weapons of mass destruction like our nuclear arsenal. And I’m gonna have much greater faith in the loyalty of an American citizen than someone who is a citizen of a foreign nation.”"

The Cost Conundrum - The New Yorker

The Cost Conundrum - The New Yorker: "McAllen has another distinction, too: it is one of the most expensive health-care markets in the country. Only Miami—which has much higher labor and living costs—spends more per person on health care. In 2006, Medicare spent fifteen thousand dollars per enrollee here, almost twice the national average. The income per capita is twelve thousand dollars. In other words, Medicare spends three thousand dollars more per person here than the average person earns."

NAMI | Victory on Parity!

NAMI | Victory on Parity!

Victory on Parity!

October 3, 2008
By a vote of 263-171, the House this afternoon gave final approval to the Paul Wellstone-Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 as part of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act (HR 1424).  President Bush is expected to sign the legislation late today or early tomorrow.

A Triumph for Consumers and Families

This victory in the House ends a nearly 20 year effort to require group health plans to cover treatment for mental illness on the same terms and conditions as all other illnesses.  NAMI is extremely grateful for the tireless work of advocates from all over the nation that contacted their Senators and House members to push for this landmark legislation.  The advocacy voice of people living with mental illness and their families made a tremendous difference in securing this long sought victory.

Study: Obamacare helped high-risk young adults get mental health treatment - Vox

Very cool.  Many young adults do not have access to necessary Mental Health care.  Even after President Bush signed the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 there was still an issue of timely care.  The ACA closed the gap.

Study: Obamacare helped high-risk young adults get mental health treatment - Vox: "Mental health and substance use problems happen the most during young adulthood. According to a new study in Health Affairs, Obamacare may be helping with those disorders.

Mental health treatment climbed 5.4 percentage points for 18-25 year olds when compared to a similar group of young adults aged 26-35, who were too old to benefit from the expansion of dependent coverage. And the proportion of 18-25 year olds who reported that private insurance paid their mental health bills climbed by about 13 percentage points. This was a substantial change; before the under-26 policy went into effect, nearly 60 percent of 18-25 year olds reported that insurance didn't pay for the mental health services they received."
