As conservative media buzzes about newly resurfaced footage of then-Senator Barack Obama delivering a 2007 speech in which he talks about race, the Romney campaign is denying that it had anything to with the tape's release.

The relationship between campaign manager Matt Rhoades and Matt Drudge — whose site first started teasing the video — has been widely reported, and the Drudge Report regularly features stories and headlines meant to give Romney a boost.

Caller editor Tucker Carlson also aired a portion of the video on his MSNBC program in 2007.

Salinas told BuzzFeed that tickets for each forum were divided between the network, the respective campaigns, and the University of Miami (which hosted the events) — and she said both campaigns initially agreed to keep the audience comprised mostly of students, in keeping with the events' education theme.

But after exhausting the few conservative groups on campus, the Romney camp realized there weren't enough sympathetic students to fill the stands on their night — so they told the network and university that if they weren't given an exemption to the students-only rule, they might have to "reschedule."

Mitt Romney appeared to be a touch more tanned during an TV interview for Spanish-language channel Univision on Wednesday, prompting suggestions the Republican leader had piled on the make up to make himself more appealing to Latino voters.

The make-up ‘mishap’ is particularly unfortunate as it comes in the wake of a leaked video of Romney saying he would have a better chance of being President if he had been "born of Mexican parents."

Romney will win the election

With the amount of money Romney will have to blanket the airwaves with there is no chance that the President will win.  The outside groups will flood the networks and the internet with what will amount to the cost of doing business.  Anyone can calculate how much it will cost to advertise everywhere for 6 weeks and sum up that it will cost $100 - $200 million.  So after the debates we will get to see what that looks like.

With that said, Romney has had the worst 3 weeks imaginable.  Internationally he offended the Brits, and was not PC in the Middle East.  He then attributed a statement to the US that the US didn't support, or say.  This week he told 47% of the US that they got welfare transfer payments when they went to vote for the President in 2008.  

He brushed off half of the electorate, and he was inaccurate in who pays or does not pay taxes.  In his statement he showed elitism in his disdain for those who receive the Earned Income Tax Credit.  Those who do not make enough money at work receive the EITC.  Then he stated that they are clingers on the system.

Obama takes on China, Romney

President Barack Obama took direct aim at China – and Mitt Romney -- on Monday with a World Trade Organization complaint about export subsidies and with stepped up rhetoric attacking Romney’s profiting from companies that shipped jobs to China.

The president announced the complaint at a campaign rally in Ohio, a state where the American auto industry supports one in eight people.

“Now, I understand my opponent has been running around Ohio, claiming… he’s going to roll up his sleeves and take the fight to China,” Obama said. “But here’s the thing: his experience has been owning companies that were called ‘pioneers’ in the business of outsourcing jobs to countries like China… Pioneers! Ohio, you can’t stand up to China when all you’ve done is send them our jobs.”

The WTO complaint alleges that China gave up to $1 billion to exporters of autos and auto parts between 2009 and 2011, distorting the market to the detriment of American manufacturers.

A while back, Ezra posted a chart detailing the differences between the Romney and Obama tax plans, while emphasizing how small the sliver of the population that got big cuts from Romney (and big hikes from Obama) is. But there are new estimates, detailed earlier Wednesday, from William Gale and Adam Looney of the Tax Policy Center of the Romney plan’s impact if it’s paid for with cuts to tax breaks, and if it’s not. So I thought I’d apply the same charting approach to the new figures:

The blue bars indicate how the plan would affect after-tax income if the rate cuts are paid for with tax break cuts, and the red bars show its effects without making up the lost revenue. The top 0.1 percent see incomes that are 8.6 percent higher without paying for the rate cuts, and 4.4 percent higher if they’re fully financed. Meanwhile, the bottom 95 percent of taxpayers see incomes fall by 1.1 percent if the rate cuts are paid for by cutting tax breaks.

The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center produced an analysis that incorporates Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's plan and has concluded that it could save the rich lots of money and actually cost other taxpayers a little bit more.

Romney wants to slash income tax rates by 20 percent for all taxpayers. And, because the rich pay more in taxes, they would therefore save more. But, in order to ensure that the plan doesn't increase the budget deficit and national debt, Romney says he wants to eliminate tax breaks. But he hasn't named them.

But most of the big-dollar tax breaks disproportionately help the middle class who get write-offs for, say, employer-provided health insurance, state and local taxes or mortgage interest.

Eliminate or seriously cut back those subsidies and it could cost people more money in the end, the report showed, even though it intentionally biased its assumptions in Romney's favor.

So a person with taxable income of $50,000-$75,000 would see an average net tax increase of $641 (saving $984 from Romney's policies, but losing $2,672 from the elimination of tax write-offs and subsidies).

A person with a $1 million or more taxable income would see an average net tax decrease of $87,117 (saving $175,961 from Romney's policies, while losing $88,444). The numbers are contained in the graphic above.
