The Creeping Stalinism of Donald Trump | Vanity Fair
The Creeping Stalinism of Donald Trump | Vanity Fair: "The vilifying of the press has gotten so bad that some solace was provided Sunday by The Washington Post, which reported from Abu Dhabi that "Defense Secretary Jim Mattis...does not see the media as the enemy of the American people." Now all journalists have to do is find a viable business model and all worries will disappear! While that Post headline might have inspired huzzahs among the Trump-obsesssed national media, The Wall Street Journal's editorial page writers are frequently finding themselves at odds in a Civil War of political ideas." Congressman Whose Amendment Ended Federal Gun Research: 'I Have Regrets'
Dickey said his mind was changed after years of watching people lose their lives in mass shootings, like the massacre at Umpqua Community College last week that left 10 people dead.
“I wish we had started the proper research and kept it going all this time,” Dickey said.
His namesake amendment eliminated the $2.6 million that the Center for Disease Control spent on researching the effects of firearms ownership on public health. " 'via Blog this'

Williams meets with a top official from the Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, where he pitches Anatabloc and proposes a study of whether use of the non-FDA inflammatory results in a reduction in health costs among state employees. Just before the beginning of the meeting, which had been arranged by Maureen McDonnell, a source says the first lady admired Williams’s Rolex and told him how great it would be if he would buy her a similar one she could give her husband.

MARCH 2012

JAN.-FEB. 2013
Star Scientific, its executives and officers receive federal subpoenas from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia seeking documents. McDonnell’s relationship with Williams becomes public with a Washington Post article detailing the executive’s payment for the wedding and some of the efforts taken on behalf of the company by the McDonnells. A steady stream of other revelations, including the existence of the state and federal investigations, follows.
APRIL 30, 2013
In a radio interview with WTOP, McDonnell insists that “there’s nothing going on at all that impairs my ability … to serve the people of Virginia.” He says he understands the questions about the wedding payment but insists that Star Scientific received no special benefits from his administration.
JULY 23, 2013
McDonnell announces he has repaid more than $120,000 in loans made by Williams to his wife and a small real estate corporation the governor owns with his sister. He apologizes for the first time, saying he is "deeply sorry for the embarrassment certain members of my family and I brought upon my beloved Virginia and her citizens."

Ted Cruz vs. Marco Rubio on immigration
Ted Cruz is at odds with Marco Rubio over immigration legislation.
The two have much in common as first-term senators elected with the help of the tea party from states with large Latino populations. Both have Cuban roots and are considered rising GOP stars and prospective presidential rivals. But the pair is divided on immigration legislation — a key difference that could have significant ramifications for their party and political ambitions.
The Texas freshman is sharply critical of the pathway to citizenship for the nation’s 11 million undocumented immigrants, a central part of the bipartisan bill that Rubio helped write. Cruz is weighing whether to aggressively oppose the immigration overhaul, a decision that could neutralize Rubio’s outreach to conservative activists in order to minimize their opposition.
…
Rubio, meanwhile, has emerged as a vigorous defender of the bill, making the pitch to conservative talk radio and right-wing commentators that the bill would offer the toughest border enforcement measures in history. For illegal immigrants to obtain green cards after 10 years and citizenship after 13 years under the bill, those enforcement measures would have to occur — and immigrants would have to pay fines and taxes while undergoing criminal background checks.

Ann Coulter Attacks Latinos In Column, As Conservatives Seek To Reach Out To Hispanic Voters
Ann Coulter Attacks Latinos In Column, As Conservatives Seek To Reach Out To Hispanic Voters: "Republicans looking to reach out to Latinos may want to avoid the advice of Ann Coulter.
The conservative pundit penned a column Wednesday in which she lashed out at the “deluge of unskilled immigrants pouring into the country” and portrayed Latinos as a lazy “underclass” looking for a government handout. Coulter titles the piece “America Nears El Tipping Pointo,” presumably to make a virtue of her ignorance of the Spanish language."

Drudge Is Massacring Chris Christie
Not everyone liked New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live last night.
The splash on The Drudge Report tonight — which calls Christie a "clown" for the appearance — serves as another example of Christie's downgraded standing with conservatives after he welcomed President Barack Obama to tour Superstorm Sandy damage in the final week of the election.
It's safe to say that this probably wouldn't have happened pre-Sandy. And as part of a larger trend, it perhaps doesn't bold well for any future national aspirations Christie might have had.

Romney Campaign Denies Involvement In Obama Video
Keeping hate mongering in fashion in the conservative world!
As conservative media buzzes about newly resurfaced footage of then-Senator Barack Obama delivering a 2007 speech in which he talks about race, the Romney campaign is denying that it had anything to with the tape's release.
The relationship between campaign manager Matt Rhoades and Matt Drudge — whose site first started teasing the video — has been widely reported, and the Drudge Report regularly features stories and headlines meant to give Romney a boost.
Caller editor Tucker Carlson also aired a portion of the video on his MSNBC program in 2007.

Alabama’s GOP Chair Bill Armistead Goes Birther | TPMMuckraker
Alabama’s GOP Chair Bill Armistead Goes Birther | TPMMuckraker: "The head of the Alabama Republican Party this week threw his support behind one of the most far-fetched theories of the already bizarre birther movement.
Speaking to a group of GOP diehards on Wednesday in Fairhope, Ala., party Chair Bill Armistead raved about a film called “Dreams From My Real Father.” The movie claims President Obama’s grandfather was a CIA agent who convinced Barack Obama Sr. to marry his teenage daughter to hide the fact that she’d been secretly impregnated by a communist.
The Mobile Press-Register reported that Armistead’s comments came after he was asked by someone in the group about another film, “2016: Obama’s Presidency,” which also weaves elaborate theories about the president’s upbringing."

A Review of ATF’s Operation Fast and Furious and Related Matters
On October 31, 2009, special agents working in the Phoenix office of the
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) received
information from a local gun store about the recent purchases of multiple AK-
47 style rifles by four individuals. Agents began investigating the purchases
and soon came to believe that the men were so-called “straw purchasers”
involved in a large-scale gun trafficking organization responsible for buying
guns for transport to violent Mexican drug trafficking organizations. This
investigation was later named “Operation Fast and Furious.”1

AFP ad focuses on disappointment - POLITICO.com: "Alex posted last night on the Koch brothers-backed Americans for Prosperity going on the air in two states, and, via Mark Halperin, the group unveiled a 60-second spot that it says will go up in 11 battlegrounds, including Wisconsin.
The theme is similar to what the Republican National Committee independent expenditure ads have tried to highlight - disappointment among voters who supported President Obama in 2008, and moving them toward being open to voting against him. "

Fox News Commentator: Democrats Are 'Being Foolish,' Should Propose Gun Control Laws | ThinkProgress
Fox News Commentator: Democrats Are 'Being Foolish,' Should Propose Gun Control Laws | ThinkProgress: "Conservative commentator Bill Kristol today on Fox News Sunday said that Democrats are “being foolish” by not proposing sensible gun regulations. “People have a right to handguns and hunting rifles,” Kristol said, “I don’t think they have a right to semi-automatic, quazi-machine guns that can shoot hundred bullets at a time. And I actually think the Democrats are being foolish as they are being cowardly. I think there is support for some moderate forms of gun control if they separate clearly from a desire to take away everyone’s handguns or hunting rifles. …President Obama on this one is just unwilling to take a strong stance.” Watch it:"

Rush Limbaugh Melts Down At Obamacare Supreme Court Decision - Business Insider
Rush Limbaugh Melts Down At Obamacare Supreme Court Decision - Business Insider: "Rush Limbaugh, as you might imagine, was not pleased at the Supreme Court's decision that upheld the Affordable Care Act on Thursday.
He railed against the Supreme Court on his radio show Thursday, blasting John Roberts and saying that America had "been betrayed and deceived by the Supreme Court. He said it was the "largest tax increase in the history of the world."
"What has been upheld here is fraud, and the Internal Revenue Service has just become Barack Obama's domestic army," Limbaugh said. "That is what we face now. We were deceived. Obamacare was a lie. It was a stealth tax on all Americans, and nobody knew it until today. Not officially. Obama told George Stephanopoulos it wasn't a tax. And Stephanopoulos was trouble-making for trying to suggest otherwise.""

the Daily Caller or the the Daily Heckler
The president of the White House Correspondents' Association has called today's "rude interruption" of President Obama by a Daily Caller reporter "discourteous," but said that the Daily Caller's status as a member for the White House in-town press pool is something that would need to be discussed by the WHCA board, of which she is a member.
"It was discourteous. It's not the way reporters who cover the White House conduct themselves," Caren Bohan, the current WHCA president and White House correspondent for Reuters, told POLITICO today, shortly after DC reporter Neil Munro shouted a question at the President while he was delivering remarks in the White House Rose Garden.
