Keystone XL start welcomed by Obama - Darren Goode - POLITICO.com

Keystone XL start welcomed by Obama - Darren Goode - POLITICO.com: "President Barack Obama "welcomes" the news that TransCanada will start building the southern portion of the Keystone XL pipeline, even as the White House continues to take shots for not approving the entire 1,700-mile route.

The rapid response from White House spokesman Jay Carney underscores the political sensitivity of the proposed pipeline and Obama's balancing act. The White House is trying not to anger its liberal base by approving the pipeline, but at the same time is publicly saying TransCanada should keep working on an alternative route through Nebraska."

Rick Santorum: Obama Is 'A Snob'

Santorum is an ass!  No pun suggested.

Rick Santorum took a swipe at the president's higher education push on Saturday.

"President Obama once said he wants everybody in America to go to college," Santorum said. "What a snob.”

The GOP candidate was speaking to a crowd of Tea Party activists in Troy, Michigan.

“Not all folks are gifted in the same way,” he explained. “Some people have incredible gifts with their hands...there are good decent men and women who go out and work hard every day and put their skills to test that aren’t taught by some liberal college professor trying to indoctrinate them. Oh, I understand why he wants you to go to college. He wants to remake you in his image. I want to create jobs so people can remake their children into their image, not his."

His comments echoed remarks he made on Friday, calling colleges "indoctrination mills."

As the Washington Post points out, Santorum's criticisms are curious considering his three advanced degrees. He holds a Bachelor's, a law degree and an M.B.A.

Obama is currently pushing a plan to make college more accessible by reforming federal student aid and providing incentives for colleges to keep their tuitions under control. He first introduced the initiative in his State of the Union speech.

Karen Handel, Susan G. Komen's Anti-Abortion VP, Drove Decision To Defund Planned Parenthood

Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the nation's leading anti-breast-cancer charity, has insisted that its since-reversed decision to pull funding from Planned Parenthood arose from a routine change in criteria for grant eligibility that had nothing to do with abortion politics.

But a Komen insider told HuffPost on Sunday that Karen Handel, Komen's staunchly anti-abortion vice president for public policy, was the main force behind the decision to defund Planned Parenthood and the attempt to make that decision look nonpolitical.

Obama proposes new aid for vets

Awesome.

We just can’t send a Vet to war and forget them.

President Barack Obama on Friday ramped up his efforts to help unemployed veterans find jobs by calling for $6 billion in spending aimed at service members returning home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Veterans “are the Americans that we want to keep serving here at home as we rebuild this country. So we’re going to do everything we can to make sure that when our troops come home, they come home to new jobs and new opportunities and new ways to serve their country,” Obama said at Arlington Fire Station No. 5, a Northern Virginia firehouse that sent some of the first emergency responders to the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.
