trigger of a gun

We'd heard a few times lately that the gun stocks (mostly Ruger and Smith & Wesson) had been surging lately, thanks to strong gun sales, but we have to thank Eddy Elfenbein for alerting us to how extreme the moves have been lately.

Ruger is up 14% from the Wednesday close after the gun company announced that itliterally could not keep up with demand.

Controversial new Santorum ad: “Welcome to Obamaville”

Watch the spot first and try to guess which part has been flagged as controversial before you click here to check your answer. I knew he’d get rapped for it the moment I saw the ad this morning, and if a dummy like me saw it coming, it’s hard to see how his ad team didn’t. Or maybe, having consumed online political media voraciously for the past six years (burp), my sense of what gets them to perk up is simply better honed than Team Sweater Vest’s? Either way, here’s the campaign’s adamant denial that they were equating anyone with anyone else. No worries, guys: Our bipartisan debt bomb will get us before the Iranian bomb does.

Mitt Romney: Mothers Should Be Required To Work Outside Home Or Lose Benefits: " Poor women who stay at home to raise their children should be given federal assistance for child care so that they can enter the job market and "have the dignity of work," Mitt Romney said in January, undercutting the sense of extreme umbrage he showed when Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen quipped last week that Ann Romney had not "worked a day in her life."

The remark, made to a Manchester, N.H., audience, was unearthed by MSNBC's "Up w/Chris Hayes," and aired during the 8 a.m. hour of his show Sunday."

George Bush Wishes The Bush Tax Cuts Weren't Called 'The Bush Tax Cuts'

George W. Bush likes the tax cuts he enacted as President. But he realizes that the moniker that has come with the cuts — the "Bush tax cuts" — probably isn't the best thing for keeping them around.

“I wish they weren’t called the Bush tax cuts,” Bush said in opening remarks at the Bush Institute Conference on Taxes and Economic Growth in New York City, according to Politico. “If they’re called some other body’s tax cuts, they’re probably less likely to be raised.”
