Doctor and Assistant Charged in $10 Million Oxycodone Operation - NYTimes.com

Doctor and Assistant Charged in $10 Million Oxycodone Operation - NYTimes.com: "For a certain price, according to the authorities, he would write prescriptions for oxycodone, a powerful painkiller, even if the “patient” never stepped foot in his office at the Itzamna Medical Center in the Gramercy neighborhood in Lower Manhattan. On an average day, he would write 11 fraudulent prescriptions and charge $125 per prescription, the authorities said on Thursday.

Dr. Castro’s office assistant, Patricia Valera, also had a secret."

Republican Congressman Attacks Sasha And Malia Obama | ThinkProgress: "CALLER: When I see the First Lady and the beautiful girls going off to the Bahamas waving goodbye to us, it’s really hard to stomach. When we’re tightening our belts, either all of us should do it or none of us should do it. This, I am pretty tolerant, I always have been, I usually shut my mouth. This is not acceptable.
KING: Carla, you’re on point and on the mark all the way through. […] You’re right on the president. He needs to show some austerity himself. Instead he wanted to tell America how bad it was going to be. […] We’ve got the president doing these things. He sent the daughters to spring break in Mexico a year ago. That was at our expense, too. And now to the Bahamas at one of the most expensive places there. That is the wrong image to be coming out of the White House."

ND Gears up for Legal Dispute on New Abortion Laws - ABC News

6 Weeks?? - you can't hear the heartbeat with a stethoscope at 6 weeks.

ND Gears up for Legal Dispute on New Abortion Laws - ABC News: "The Republican governor signed three anti-abortion measures on Tuesday — including one banning abortions as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, or when a heartbeat can be detected. By doing so, Dalrymple positioned his oil-rich state as a primary battleground in the decades-old fight over abortion rights.

Within minutes of signing the laws, unsolicited donations began pouring into the state's lone abortion clinic to help opponents prove the new laws are unconstitutional. The governor urged lawmakers to set aside cash for an inevitable legal challenge."

North Dakota Governor Signs Strict Abortion Limits - NYTimes.com

Pretty serious deal here!

North Dakota Governor Signs Strict Abortion Limits - NYTimes.com: "FARGO, N.D. — Gov. Jack Dalrymple of North Dakota approved the nation’s toughest abortion restrictions on Tuesday, signing into law a measure that would ban nearly all abortions and inviting a legal showdown over just how much states can limit access to the procedure.

Mr. Dalrymple, a Republican, signed three bills passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature in Bismarck. The most far-reaching law forbids abortion once a fetal heartbeat is “detectable,” which can be as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. Fetal heartbeats are detectable at that stage of pregnancy using a transvaginal ultrasound."

US Treasury Tax Receipts Record - Business Insider

Good stuff!

US Treasury Tax Receipts Record - Business Insider: "I monitor the Treasury's daily data on federal tax receipts and deposits for individual and payroll taxes as well as for corporate income taxes. The daily data obviously are very volatile so I smooth them out with 260-day moving sums, which closely track the Treasury’s monthly data on a 12-month sum basis. The Treasury’s deposits of withheld income and employment taxes rose to a new record high on March 22. Corporate income tax receipts are the highest since February 2009."

I'm curious, when did it become unconstitutional to exclude homosexual couples from marriage? 1791? 1868? When the Fourteenth Amendment was adopted?"
Olson countered that with a question of his own, bringing up two past high-profile cases involving discrimination.
"When did it become unconstitutional to prohibit interracial marriages? When did it become unconstitutional to assign children to separate schools?" Olson asked."

KAGAN: Because that's the same State interest, I would think, you know. If you are over the age of 55, you don't help us serve the Government's interest in regulating procreation through marriage. So why is that different?
MR. COOPER: Your Honor, even with respect to couples over the age of 55, it is very rare that ... both parties to the couple are infertile, and the traditional —

Wolfowitz Says U.S. Botched Iraq War - The Daily Beast

Wolfowitz Says U.S. Botched Iraq War - The Daily Beast: "It’s not quite a mea culpa, but Paul Wolfowitz, the former deputy Pentagon chief who called for the overthrow of Saddam Hussein, admits that the U.S. botched parts of the invasion and allowed the country to spiral out of control. There “should have been Iraqi leadership from the beginning,” Wolfowitz told The Sunday Times, and the U.S. shouldn’t have excluded so many former Baath Party members from the reconstruction process. But that’s as far as he’ll go: the war itself, he says, was still a good idea. If we hadn’t ousted Hussein, “We would very likely either have had to go through this whole scenario all over but probably with higher costs for having delayed.”"

PolitiFact | Kevin McCarthy says federal government has more revenue now than ‘any other time’: "The government will pull in 16.9 percent in 2013, lower than the average over the last 40 years, according to the Congressional Budget Office. That’s not more money than at "any other time," as McCarthy said.

What about in 2015, when the government is projected to bring in 19.1 percent?

That’s still lower than revenue as a percentage of GDP in seven years of the last 40 — also not more money than at "any other time."

During the course of the nine-year US presence in Iraq, at least $8 billion – or 13.3 percent of US reconstruction spending – was wasted, according to the final report released today by the Special Investigator General for Iraq Reconstruction.

The report, entitled Learning From Iraq: A Final Report From the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction, offered a detailed assessment how $60 billion in American taxpayer money was spent in Iraq during the war. Of that sum, about $25 billion went to training and equipping the Iraqi security forces, while the remainder went an array of development projects ranging from infrastructure construction to governance improvement programs.

Bobby Jindal Just Killed Decades of Republican Tax Policy - Businessweek: "Do you hear that? No? Listen closer. There. That. That, coming from Louisiana, is the sound of the end of trickle-down economics. Economists have known for a while that personal marginal tax rates, and in particular those on the rich, don’t seem to have much of an effect on the economy. As we wrote in September, even Reagan’s economist did not find any evidence that the Reagan recovery had come from the Reagan administration’s personal income tax cuts. Over the last four years, apostate Republican thinkers such as Bruce Bartlett and David Frum began to agree. Then most of America did. Even a group of CEOs of major corporations came around to the idea that raising tax rates on the rich would not hamper growth."

Paul Ryan Budget Hikes Taxes For Middle Class: Study - Business Insider: "The CBBP followed up on a study released Friday by the Tax Policy Center, which concluded that Ryan's budget would add $5.7 trillion to the deficit. The Tax Policy Center also suggested that Ryan's budget presented the same problem as Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's tax plan during the campaign. It found that the Ryan plan could not both trim the deficit and enact sweeping tax cuts on all income groups.
The CBBP's report, meanwhile, goes further on the TPC's implication and flatly states that Ryan's plan budget could not close the $5.7 trillion gap without a massive tax hike for middle-income earners."

Marxists Infiltrated The Catholic Church, And Four Other Crazy Things We Learned At CPAC | ThinkProgress

Wow!

Marxists Infiltrated The Catholic Church, And Four Other Crazy Things We Learned At CPAC | ThinkProgress:

1. Marxists Control The Catholic Church. Fringe fundamentalist Cliff Kincaid’s organization America’s Survival is handing out a brochure warning Roman Catholics that the church “has been compromised philosophically — not only by infiltrators from the homosexual movement and Marxists. but by adherents of the so-called ‘New Age’ philosophy.” So vast is the communist infiltration within the Catholic Church, one “Catholic insider” told the organization that the bishops “made a deal with the devil to get Obamacare passed.”
2. The UN Will Take One-Quarter Of America’s Land. The American Jobs Alliance, a conservative business advocacy group, is handing out hundreds of fliers warning attendees of the dangers posed by the Trans-Pacific Partnership, an undeniably controversial free trade agreement that the United States is currently negotiating with a handful of South Pacific nations. Instead of reasoned criticism however, AJA sounds the alarm over Sharia Law, and claims that the Partnership “cedes 1/4 of U.S. to Foreign Control. A quarter of the entire U.S. land area will fall under UN court jurisdiction.”
3. Marriage Equality Must Be Opposed.
4. George Soros Controls Everything.
5. Puerto Rico’s Statehood Referendum Was Rigged

Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) compared efforts to regulate the for-profit college industry to the Holocaust during a speech Tuesday. Sunday Talk Interviews Show Why Jeb Bush Will Never Be President - The Daily Beast

Do we really want to entertain this??  The first Bush was not reelected, the second one was tied to rabid conservatives who ended up not liking him - two filed Bushes.  Do we really want to play this game again looking for a different result?

On five talk shows Sunday morning, Jeb Bush reminded America why he’ll never be president: it’s hard to distance yourself from your own last name.
Unfortunately for Jeb, history is written by historians. Three times since 2009, pollsters have asked them to rank American presidents, and in those rankings, W. has come in 36th, 39th, and 31st. Only Millard Fillmore, Warren Harding, William Henry Harrison, Franklin Pierce, Andrew Johnson, and James Buchanan rank lower. Ordinary Americans agree. Three times since George W. Bush left office, pollsters have asked the public to rank recent presidents. And three times, W. has ended up second to last, ahead of only Richard Nixon.

Unemployment at 4-Year Low as U.S. Hiring Gains Steam

Awesome!

Econ_Feb_13

Econ_Feb_Rate_13

The economy picked up speed in February, creating jobs at a pace that would substantially lower the unemployment rate. But Washington could put a stop to that.

Even as analysts hailed a better-than-expected jobs report on Friday that pointed to an acceleration in growth, they warned that stronger employment gains are being put at risk by sequestration, the automatic spending cuts being imposed by the federal government.

“They’re doing their best to get in the way,” Nigel Gault, chief United States economist at IHS Global Insight, said of lawmakers and other officials. “But the good news is that the economy is carrying plenty of momentum going into sequestration.”

The Labor Department reported that the economy added 236,000 jobs in February as the unemployment rate sank to 7.7 percent, down from 7.9 percent in January and the lowest level since December 2008.

Wall Street expected no more than 165,000 additional jobs in February, and the surprise helped lift the Dow Jones industrial average to another new nominal record, its fourth for the week. It closed at 14,397.07.
