Stores gear up for Small Business Saturday - video

There’s Thanksgiving on Thursday, Black Friday, and now some people are promoting "Small Business Saturday."

The idea is to encourage you to use your limited holiday spending power backing independent, locally owned small businesses – whether that means eating at local restaurants instead of chains or buying at independent book stores or boutiques instead of big franchises.

Supporters are using Facebook to spread the word about the first of what may become an annual event to back small business on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

The thing is, one of the biggest businesses in the world is promoting the whole small business event. American Express is also giving special incentives to card holders and small businesses to participate.

The money goes to Girls Inc., which teaches young women about becoming entrepreneurs.
